Terri Schiavo's parents, the Schindlers
Unable to stop their infighting, control their selfishness, reign in their lack of respect for the US legal system, the Schiavos and Schindlers successfully redirected the media's obsessive, demented rampage.
The media provides unrelenting coverage of collegiate rape suspects, vacationing trailer park girls apparently murdered, child killings and molestations, and the omni-present revolutions sweeping South America, Asia, and the Middle East. Without the media providing the stage, no act could have played so long or loudly.
Now deceased, Terri Schiavo demonstrated as a young woman her ignorance of essential bodily functions and the role nutrition plays in keeping us alive. She allowed her eating disorder to grow out of control and cause a potassium imbalance that prevented her heart from beating. Then, in a brief period, her brain was deprived of oxygen and nutrients. Critical parts of her brain starved and died. Other parts lived and remained alive for years giving the impression of cognitive functionality for the media and unthinking fanatics to play upon. For Terri Schiavo to have returned to being a reasonably well-functioning person, her brain's dead areas needed to return to life. That could not have happened. Brain cells do not rejuvenate when fresh blood returns after the cells' starvation. If these areas could have revived, Terri would have returned to a fully functional condition years ago.
The parents who raised Terri Schiavo with a psychologically-induced eating disorder and who failed to adequately help her overcome it before it could damage her beyond repair and eventually kill her, demonstrated why their daughter developed as she did. These parents are selfish, maladjusted, and incapable people. They abused the US legal system, the US Congress, President Bush, Florida's legislature and governor. In desperation, the Schindlers encouraged Jesse Jackson to fight those institutions that rescued, preserved, protected and added years to their daughter's life for 15 years. As their last hope they recruited Jesse Jackson to jab and jabber and create his usual brand of chaos. Fortunately Jackson's time has passed.
The media was to blame for this chaotic fiasco. Without the media providing the stage, no act would have played.
Terri Schiavo lost her life. The relevant, but uninteresting question is, can her parents get a life? These are the people who raised a daughter obsessed with being thin and not educated to evaluate nutritional factors. Many of today's dieters and eating-disordered young women should learn from Terri Schiavo's 15-year existence and death. Vegans should consider that even though it's cool and fun to be on stage and feed their psychological hang-ups, nutrition matters.
