Lookin'
somewhat less good and more
nasty, Danica Patrick, the
race car driver who could be
on the road to important
wins, appears here ready to
beat the stuffing out of
another driver at the 2008
Indy 500. |
|
|
Danica certainly would have made
race
history if she had been allowed to physically confront the driver
she accuses of bumping her in pit
lane. Instead the head of track
security escorted her away, thus
preventing her from asserting her
21st- century femininity. |
|
Danica Patrick banged on her
steering wheel and screamed
following the incident. She huffed
and puffed and marched in that
female way of today making a beeline
for Ryan Briscoe's car. She ripped
off her gloves and was staring
straight ahead. It appeared that
nothing mattered other than
physically confronting Briscoe.
Apparently Charles Burns, security
chief of the Indy Racing League, was
concerned about her initiating a
physical confrontation with Briscoe.
Burns hopped over the safety wall,
intercepted Patrick en route, and
directed her away before she made
race and Indy history. All the while
Briscoe was wise and remained in his
car while it was moved to the garage
and its door closed behind him. |
|
Danica Patrick fumed to
photographers that "It was probably
best I didn't get down there
anyways." |
|
Later
Briscoe said, "I just saw the
replay, and it confirmed my
thoughts. We were both out there
trying to win the Indy 500, and when
it's time to go, we have to go. But
from what I can see, there was still
plenty of room on the right side for
her to get around. And there are
people (in Patrick's camp) pointing
fingers, but that's not the way we
are. We both have a brake pedal in
our cars, and from what I can tell,
there was still plenty of room for
her to get around me. I was trying
to get around (Dan) Wheldon, and I
was staying in the middle lane. I
got run up in the back, and it's a
shame." |
|
Danica
Patrick had not been in a serious position to
win. When the pit lane collision broke her
left rear suspension there were 29 laps
remaining. She was in eighth place.
It had been a race during which she frequently
voiced frustrations about her
underperforming car. Twice, the
driver-to-crew radio transmission --
aired on the ABC broadcast --
captured her loud and angry
complaints about the car's
performance. With 80 laps left, she
received a warning from race officials
for her weaving back and forth on
the track to prevent Helio
Castroneves from passing her. |
|
Before the incident, Danica was
heard yelling over her radio to her
crew and the ABC News audience, "I
can't do anything!... I am SLOOOOOOOOOW! I am DAMN SLOW!" |
|
So
now Miss Danica has an excuse for
not winning the 2008 Indy 500. One
of those idiot male drivers messed
with her. How dare the Indy 500
allow male race drivers in this race
of champions! |
